Smoky Mountain Sunrise

There is nothing like a sunrise. The crisp air, the anticipation as you sit in the dark, awaiting the coming of the warmth and glow of the sun. I was standing on an overlook on the Foothills Parkway, overlooking the Smoky Mtn. National Park. The scene before me was unbelievable, with the mist obscuring the far away mountains, and their blue color was amazing. The Cherokee referred to the Blue Ridge Mountains as “Shaconage”, which translates to “land of the blue mist”, due to the blue haze often seen over the mountain range. What made it even better was the complementary colors of the yellow sunrise with the blue of the mountains. I had wanted to create an image like this for a long time, and now I have a chance to offer it to others.
