In October of 2024, my wife and I were camping in the lower areas of the Smoky Mountains. The days were bright and moderately warm, however a coldfront came in, and the light rain we experienced at the lower levels became snow at the high elevations. We decided to drive up to Kuwohi, formerly known as Klingmans Dome, to see what the early snow looked like. With the onset of cold and wet weather tthe landscape was transformed into a breathtaking and picturesque winter scene, the likes of which I had never seen. A delicate layer of early season snowfall clung to the branches of the towering trees, showcasing their rugged forms draped in pure white. As the golden sunset gradually descended below the horizon, it cast warm rays of light that illuminated the frosty environment, creating a striking and captivating contrast between the coldness of the snow and the vibrant warmth of the sky. The distant mountains created a perfect backdrop for the nearby snow covered trees. With the beautiful interplay of these elements I was luck enough to capture a moment of serene beauty, where nature's seasonal transition unfolds in a radiant and breathtaking display of light and color.
